French Jobs and Productivity Last Year

Fast economic growth in the services sector and construction generated over 500,000 new jobs in France last year according to figures recently published by the French employment ministry.

Employment in the services sector grew by 4.3 % last year and remuneration increased by1.9 %. Employment in manufacturing and other industry sectors grew by 1.7 percent and generated 13% of the new jobs created last year. Real wages in the manufacturing sector increased by 2 per cent. Construction created over 65,000 new jobs which represents a 4.8 % increase over last year employment in the sector. Real wages in construction increased by 2.7 %.

Labor productivity in France accelerated from 2.9 % to 3.2% between the 80s and 90s. However, productivity in the services sector seems to have dropped in the same period by 1.6% according to data published by the French Labor Ministry.
