Producer services that encompass finance, professional services and transport and telecommunications
Nov 17, 2000

Producer services that encompass finance, professional services and transport and telecommunications accounted for 50%, 40.4%, and 45.8 of total GDP in 1997 Hong Kong, Singapore, and the US respectively. Those same services contributed to less than 30% of total output in Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea in the same year. Despite the low contribution of producer services to output in Korea and Taiwan, it is important to note that over the past 20 years the participation of these services in output has increased by half. In fact, producer services grew in average over 9% in Korea, Taiwan and Singapore during the 1990s years running up to1997. In that same time span, Japanese producer services grew at an average 2.9%.
